World's Third Largest Diamond Found in Botswana
The world's third largest diamond was unearthed in Botswana earlier this week.
It is a 1098 carat-stone of gem-quality which is just under the 1109 carat-stone, which currently holds second place, that was also found in Botswana.
A similar sized stone sold in 2017 for over $53 million dollars. The government of Botswana Tweeted that proceeds from the diamond will be used to advance national development in the country.
Botswana also had a 1,758-carat stone in 2019 but that was not deemed gem-quality.
So if you love massive diamonds, Botswana is the place to dig!
